Breaking the Language Barrier

“Play + Work. It’s universal. And thanks to your efforts, soon Plurk will be too.”

This is a recent quote from the Plurk online blog. This blog post shares that Plurk is going global. There are many different people from many different countries on Plurk and not all of them speak the same language. So today the Plurk Buddy appeared to bring us all some great news. PCTP, or “Plurk Collabrative Translation Project” .You can view the blog post here.

Now the focus of this project seems to be to break the language barrier for all that are on plurk. This will benifit because no longer wll you have language get in the way of great conversation. This will open up a whole new perspective of the world. Because all plurk users will be able to communicate, they will be more inclined to have great conversations anytime day or night.

How can I help?

Plurk has set up this webpage and a google group for you to get started. All you must do is send an email to plurk-translations@googlegroups.com with the following details:

  • Preferred user name
  • Plurk user name (if different)
  • Your real name
  • Language you would be interested in translating
  • and optionally any other details or background on what would make you good for the project.

Upon completion Plurk will send you an e-mail with their instructions, and off you go.

What if I dont know any other languages?

Dont worry, Plurk will not judge you for not joining their team. They are just doing what I believe has needed to be done in a social network for a long time. Interaction between devs/users is a pristine ability that only a select few social networks have. Plurk is using their massive user base advantage, and letting the users contribute the content thus leaving the devs open for more new features/updates.I myself dont know any other languages and will not be contributing, but will thank everyone that does for all their hard work.

In conclusion I believe that this will truly be a great addition to the plurk community. Imagine talking to someone from a far away country, without having to learn another language, from the comforts of your own home. Sound great? It is.

It’s is a way good concept. Thanks for doing some PR on it. MichDdot is doing quite a bit. This makes me a bit more ashamed to be monolingually challenged.
