Plurkshop, A New Beginning!
July 14th, 2008 by thoughtwrong
What Is A Plurkshop?
According to their site:
Plurkshops are community driven workshops on lots of different topics. Organically fostered on the Plurk social networking community.
I view a plurkshop as a fun, conversational method of learning new things from fellow plurkers in those particular fields. Long gone are the days of reading a textbook for all the answers. Now we have plurkshops!
The Experience
Following plurkshop number seven I was overwhelmed with an anxious urge to write this post. plurkshops in the past for me have been, well, overwhelming. Sharing in a massive 600 post plurk can be a daunting task. This drove me away, but afterwords I was amazed to learn what valuable content was being taken away from these by reading the summaries. I then tried with their chat client the second time around, and it had some sort of error which reverted me back to the old F5 technique in Plurk.
The New Approach
I think they have done it! Connie and the plurkshop crew have now switched to using ‘Cover it Live‘, which I think opens up a whole new door for these plurkshops. While the hosts in this plurkshop seemed a little overwhelmed by the amount of questions rolling in at the beginning, they handled themselves well and the features of ‘Cover it Live’ made for excellent moderation. While not as many questions or comments went through as in previous plurkshops, the amount of information I obtained was far superior. We want to applaud the entire plurkshop team for all their hard work and dedication.
What I Took Away…
Well this particular plurkshop was “#7 Security and Microblogging”. It was very informative and enlightening to say the least. Hosted this week by Jennifer Leggio and Adam J O’Donnell and They spoke about:
- Spam on Social networks
- URL redirection and threat involved
- Scraping Posts and what that means for you
- Ways to prevent and protect you account from being comprimised
- Password strength and rotation
- and much, much more..
If you are as interested in these subjects as I was, please head on over to the Plurkshops site for the summary and entire transcript of the event (see link below).
Final Thoughts
These plurkshops are a great collaborative method of receiving and maintaining information on a wide variety of topics. Anyone who has not checked them out should do so, and see what vast knowledge Plurkshops.com has in store for you.
